DAS Civilian Peacebuilding
Diploma of Advanced Studies

Learn from research and practice, understand the causes of violent conflicts, contribute to peace.

The DAS in Civilian Peacebuilding program provides a holistic understanding of civilian peacebuilding aimed at transforming violent conflict by peaceful means, promoting peace, rebuilding societies affected by war and preventing violence from re-erupting. This postgraduate DAS program bridges current academic findings with the latest insights from peacebuilding practice.

    MISCELLANEOUS

    Participants can join the program at any time of the year with a course of their choice. They can apply for the DAS from the start of their studies or transfer to the DAS after having finished a CAS or one or more courses. 

    swisspeace is a practice-oriented peace research institute. It analyses the causes of violent conflicts and develops strategies for their peaceful transformation. swisspeace aims to contribute to the improvement of conflict prevention and conflict transformation by providing spaces for analysis, discussion, critical reflection and learning.

    Leading international scholars and experienced practitioners from governmental bodies, civil society, international organizations and the private sector facilitate these programs.

    Syllabus

    DAS participants select two out of the four CAS programs offered:

    CAS Civilian Peacebuilding Essentials
    CAS Civilian Peacebuilding Specializations
    CAS Civilian Peacebuilding Methodologies
    CAS Religion, Peace & Conflict


    Course methodologies include expert inputs, peer exchange, case studies, exercises, skills training and self-study.

    Successful participants are awarded a Diploma of Advanced Studies. This program can be taken as a module of the Master of Advanced Studies in Civilian Peacebuilding programs offered by swisspeace and the University of Basel (60 ECTS).

    TARGET AUDIENCE / PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

    These postgraduate programs are designed for professionals interested in combining current academic insights and practical knowledge in peace and conflict studies.

    A minimum of two years of professional experience in relevant fields and a university degree (minimum BA), or equivalent educational background, and proficiency in English are required.
